Giants made into Lilliputions

Your humble Bolts blogger was lucky enough to be one of 63,373 fans at the Murph (for new skoolers, Qualcom Stadium) most of them chanting "Eli sucks" or booing, for the entire game...loudly. For those who think a Cali crowd is just a bunch of weed puffin', leave before the 3rd quarter, disinterested and pass the unsprouted wheat bread sprout and avocado sandwiches, you are sorely mistaken. The tailgating before the game was most intense, almost Raider game intense but not quite. Along with the smell of marinated mexican steaks, brats and bbq'd marlin was a scent of desparation and do or die for the Chargers season. My latino "G" brothers across the way from our car, "Fast" Eddie, Million the king of party favors, and their latin script tattoos kept us laughing...and the Giants fans who braved cross their pass humble and on their toes. I lived in NYC and never lost my powder blue blood but I respect the NY fan, as some of my best moments were spent rooting for the Bolts in the Meadowlands, whether we played the Jets or Giants. The glaring exception was the infamous "snowball game" in the mid 1990's which got a little hairy for me. I carried a little piece o' payback for that one in my heart and I was appeased on this day in San Diego. Oh, yeah, their was also a game on this day, a damn good one for the Chargers. A confidence builder. An LT domination. A riled up defense that kicked ass. The secondary? We are young, talented and weak as Eli proved with 352 yds passing and two TD's. Although Jammer returned an INT to the house that was rather exciting, it was of course called back. The 1st half was one of the most exciting halves of football I have ever seen in my 44 years of life. The 2nd half was one of the best the Bolts ever had, the Giants went beddy bye after a hard fought and scary comeback in the 1st half that never stopped the boo's, but quieted them significantly. The Chargers on this day scored more points than any team in the NFL, and LT busted out more yards than any running back also. Actually we rushed for more total yds than we had in 41 yrs! Offensive coordinator Cam Cameron had the offense clicking like Gregory Hines back in the day. It was an onslaught of offensive variety. I missed just one series the whole game, and it was a doozy. I was finishing a cigar at the end halftime with two large ladies that were molded into beauty queens by my consumption. Naughty thoughts tripped through my sodden brain. The menage e trois fantasy crashed and burned like the two steam rollers who would have flattened my ass had it come true and pictures posted on rotten.com when I heard and enormous (the BIG analogies will never stop) roar from the crowd inside. We all hustled inside and the two girls took their seats in front of me, if they were on an airline they would've been charged for four seats! I missed LT's 26 yd TD pass to LT. Oh well, saw the replay...beyootiful. When the girls dropped in their seats about 10 guys went straight up out of theirs like the gophers you hit with a toy bat at Chucky Cheese! Brees was unshakeable and solid, and he should have been...he was never sacked like Eli was twice. Eli was hurried all day but ripped off some huge third down and super longs on his own scrambling and running after pressure. He is gonna be something. Gates was solid, 6 catches, 92 yds, one for a 14 yd TD. Nate kicked a 44 yd FG cleanly, I'm almost back on his bandwagon...get some in New England Nate! Sproles is kick returner extroidinaire, giving us great field position all day. He is working out great, I like him alot. I could say more and mention more individual Charger accomplishments but I must mention what looms on the horizon and get to prepping falafels after my mini SoCal vacation. By the by, this is my website and what I do for a living: fatkitty.biz  [] There is a great link to the best indie Charger site on the net. We are in the Patriots house next week, the ultimate challenge. Brady must be licking his chops and looking at the Charger secondary like Jim Belushi looks at a sticky bun. It could be ugly but many elements figure into this game. I know one of my fave all time Chargers and now Patriot Rodney Harrison is out for the year which may give Brees, Gates and McQuardell a little more breathing room for he is a one man wrecking crew who made you remember when you caught a pass. Parker is an intangible, he has big play capability and I would play off that. If our dee line and backers can maintain pressure and limit Dillon, we have a good shot. Secondary has ability but is mistake prone, Brady is surgeon like in his precision of slicing up secondarys, hope for our youngsters to kick it up a notch. I know one thing, the Charger girls are way hotter than anything NE can throw out back there, all decked out in Carhart's to keep themselves warm! Hopefully the Chowd's will be more concerned about the Sox by the 3rd quarter than what is happening on the field. Personally I see Brees and LT and our boys giving Ted Kennedy a whole new field of gin blossoms after this one. Keep the faith Powd's! GO CHARGERS!

train ride from hellopia!

I just got home from San Diego on the always adventurous Amtrak train Tuesday night at 10pm, 5 hrs late and sleeping in Sacramento station waiting for transfer to PDX, OR for 3 hrs. I saw a cockroach in the bathroom in SAC that was as big as a chihuahua while seated (ok, not seated, aiming like a bombadier) and it sent chills down my spine. It skittered towards me, a freaking aggro cockroach. I did not step on it for fear of trip and fall injury or retaliation from his mouse sized cronies in the corner. I swear it looked like they had doo rags and brass knuckles! After finishing my duty this cockroach tailed me! They must have been east coast old school and watched the game in the "tv chair" and saw my bolt hat and were out for revenge! Freaky! I'm going to sleep and post my thoughts Wednesday mid morning about the return of Eli to SD and the game. He felt some "California Love" for sure. This crowd reminded me of a NY crowd. My voice is lost amongst a sea of Patron', Corona and cee gars! Talk at ya'll 2 morrow. If you travel to a game this year, I would rather ride a clown bicycle than take the train!

DEE FLATED Bolts Fan

I don't quite know how to put this game into words. Maybe by describing the contents of my cat's litterbox. The 1st half wasn't so bad. Brees is looking kinda Joey Harringtonish. My lawdy, what the f^%k was that INT Drew threw to Champ Bailey? A rookie error by a veteran QB, ugly as Rosie O'Donnel in a g string. He breezed in w/a pass thrown right to him! That TD NEVER should have been scored. Again, a huge play that besides the last possession and winning FG, decided the game. The Denver offense was stagnant so why not let the Denver Dee score a TD! We got to Jake 3 times, they got Drew 4. The huge sack was John Lynch sacking Brees for 12 yds forcing Scifres to punt from our own end zone. The punt was returned for a TD by the ponies, but we got lucky and it was called back for too many men on the field. No matter, two plays later Denver was in and in the lead 17-14. Gates was back and did pretty well, though in my opinion it seemed that he was not in alot of crucial plays, or maybe I became innattentive due to tequila consumption.  We are very underwhelming at this point and are in the supposed easier part of this years schedule. If your a Bolt diehard you might be thinking, "This looks like the 2003 team, and 2003 Drew". Iam maintaining confidence because both these games we have lost were ours for the taking, we let them slip away. But dare I say, I'm worried. Watching this game in the 2nd half was like having to listen to 4 Non Blondes "What's Going On" and nails on a chalkboard mixed with Philip Bailey and Phil Collin's "Easy Lover"! Freakin' horrible! LT had a nice TD run and from what I hear it is the 1st time he ever scored in Denver in his career. He also set a record by scoring a rushing TD in his 14nth straight game. Thats cool, but its all about the W's baybee. Like Spiccoli in Fast Times at Ridgemont High hopefully next week I will start the blog with the line, "That was awesome, totally awesome!" hopefully we won't be a bunch of Pacific Stereo salesman! Hopefully Eli will be spending alot of time on his ass at the Murph and having a miserable time in the sunny city he snubbed with his daddy. A MUST win or we are close to done. Rinse, lather, repeat. GO BOLTS!

the silver & blue?

Opening day, what a feeling, nothing mo bettah. Except we lost. Beat ourselves and still almost pulled it out. Heartbreaker Robert Plant would wail! The momentum killer was midway through the 3rd quarter with the Bolts up 21-14. Shaun Phillips sacked Bledsoe, which would have brought on a 4th & 20 from the Dallas 10, solid right? Nope. Castillo roughed the passer...1st and 10. And they drove to the tying TD. Iam convinced this started all bad to come. Total exhilaration to crushed. I give mad props to Darren Sproles, averaging almost 37 yds per kickoff return in four tries, breaking one for 49 yds. Julius Jones ran on us. It didn't look so spectacular but it was huge, opening up recievers for Bledsoe in the 2nd half against our already suspect pass defense. Also a huge Jammer interception was called back due to too many men on the field! Total Pop Warner penalty, keystone coppish! 1st game jitters? Unacceptable attitude for a Charger fan to take. Our schedule is a minefield, this seemed to be one of the more winnable games. Iam discouraged but hopeful. Stats say we have won 5 of our last 7 opening road games. Denver will be our opponent, they took a beating in Miami, not good. Their revamped "Cleveland Browns" defense has more holes than Def Leppard's lead singers acid washed jeans! Jake "the Bake" Plummer is not the 2nd coming. Iam confident the Bolts can beat the Ponies in their stable, "Mile High Manure". KC is going to be tough. The Faders are not a factor. This journey has just begun, the ship will be righted. Brees was fairly solid, but with no Gates to throw to he depended perhaps too heavily on McCardell. Almost predictable, a Schottenhiemer trait at times. LaDanian did ok, but he didn't have alot of touches due to the Cowboy blitzing. On to the irrelavent. To answer some of the Sportsblogger Kings questions: YES, the Bills throwback unis are too cool. I'm a fan of white helmets, like the best throwback uni of all time. The Charger baybee blues and white helmets w/bolts and the cool yellow pants with the bolt down the leg...the BEST hands down. We should petition to wear those uni's full time! On another football fashion note, the coolest uni I have seen this season was Detroit in the tight black jerseys, they were pummeled in the final preseason game when I saw these. With my Dior sense of fashion I rank thses uni's the belle of the runway so far this season. Congrats to the Lions on doing in their nemisis the Cheesehead Nation! And also too Americas Team, the Saints...way to go guys...inspiring. Irrelavent PT. II The nerd stat of the day. Being in the NWest the Seahawks game was televised. The 1st football play I saw this season was Jax's Josh Scobee kicking to...Josh Scobee of the Hawks! What are the odds of that? And Scobee one kenobi fumbled! But was called down...good luck Hawks fans, prepare to be underwhelmed again. GO CHARGERS!!!

season opener

Iam apologizing so to my lack of attention to my blog. I'm going to the Cake show 2night and have a huge fest to do the day before opener. Will have plenty to say following the game w/Dallas the only way I know how. The naysayers are correct. The schedule is brutal. We are gonna have to finish. Killer instinct. All that. My blog following the Giants game will be brief. Night game and leave early on the train, the next morning! My vacations are no piece of Cake either, get there and back...quickly. Give to the Red Cross if you can...Iam. As irrelevent as it may seem...go Saints! It is hard to believe, the opening of the season is mere days away. I don't count Raider games on Thursday as the "real" opening day! Kerry Collins is all I'm gonna say...good luck. Chargers...you may tremble now opponents. Were comin' at ya...to prove a point. You gots to believe.
